Live Drive replacement cable - IDE ATA33 40 wire cable works, but ATA100 80 wire cable doesn't. Anything I can do?

I'm talking about the cable that connects between the sblive/audigy card to the live drive/audigy drive. I would like to use a silver braided single device ata66/100/133 cable, but it doesn't work. I tried other ata66+ cable and they don't work. Only the ata33 40 wire cables work. Does anyone know why, or how I could modigy the ata66+ cables to work?

thanks.

edit: I read that 80pin cables have more ground wires?

yes, ata100 cables have 40 extra ground wires

not sure why a 33 would work but a 100 wouldn't

are you sure cable isn't crossed or something?

i remember a discussion around here a long time ago about whether you can truly use a regular IDE cable for this purpose...can't remember outcome of said discussion though!
