Live drive question

Hi,

I lost the cable that connects my live drive to my sound card. Any idea if there is something simple I can use to replace it, or is it a specialized cable? I seem to remember it looked like a floppy cable, but I haven't used it in over a year and could be wrong.

Thanks for the help!

Any 40-conductor IDE cable will do. I don't know about the 80-conductor cables, which are pretty standard now; they probably work equally well. I had an older 40-conductor lying around and used that because it seemed to fit, and it worked flawlessly.

Some people say it worked with no problem and others say that it fried their card. I was never able to understand why the inconsistency since it seems like a pretty simple thing to do, but then I thought about it and I think I might know a few reasons why.

Make absolutely certain that you're connecting both ends the correct way (pin 1 to pin 1). Since there's not a plug (and hence no notch) on either the Live Drive! or the card, it's easy to plug something in backwards.

Some IDE cables omit the connection at pin 28 (for cable select reasons), but the SB Live! card and drive actually have a connection at pin 28 so make sure your cable has a connection there. You can use a multimeter on the cable to make sure.

Use a regular 40 wire IDE cable not an 80 wire one.
