Live Drive II troubles

I have a live drive II hooked up to my SB Live X-gamer and I've been trying to record minidiscs using the optical outs on the front. I've used the headphone jack and remote control and they appear to work correctly. However when trying to record MD's i get that the optical out is not giving a signal to my minidisc. I've tested the optical cable out and it works. Any suggestions?

When you take the black plugs out of the live drive, do you see a red light? If not, then the power is connected.

Also, go into "Audio HQ", select "Mixer" and make sure those connections are enabled and not muted.
