I love both the Hendrix and SRV versions, but my favorite is actually James Mankey (guitar) and Johnette Napolitano (vocals), AKA Concrete Blonde.

If anyone's interested, I found the powertab to the song (these tabs seem to be the most accurate, include the actual notes in the score and all the cool features the powertab editor has), click here. If you need the powertab editor (get the editor not the viewer), get it here. If you want more tabs for this sweet editor go here 🙂

The SRV version is like his other Hendrix covers - too anal, too tidy, too fussy. White people just can't play blues.

So having good technique is now a bad thing?

Oreo,

Thats exactly how I learned it, there are 2 parts (bar 105 to 109; and bar 131, 132) that are damn tough...The rest, while tough initially, is fairly typical blues scales...and can be learned if you REALLY try at it. Also with having played for only 2 years I imagine the entire song seems like a daunting task to begin with...Keep at it, and soon you'll be playing it. Its such a relaxing song to play, and you can really get into it as well.

I've learned the first 5 or 6 measures from that tab...being able to hear the song exactly how it is in the tab helps a lot 🙂

I'm sure I could play it... it's just a matter of memorization. I have up to the first few bars of where he goes really quiet down, after that I don't remember much well enough to be able to play it.

There is another program out there called "Guitar Pro" or something similar, and a site that has ALOT of TABS for it as well, its very similar to Powertab

Guitar Pro Tabs

Guitar Pro

There is a demo there, you can single out bass beats etc, so once you learn songs you can cut the guitar part out and play it yourself along with drums, bass etc. GTP costs money, but if your willing its available in the right places

Stevie Ray is so overrated...all of the nerd Stevie Ray wannabes where I used to work worshiped him. They'd play tracks of themselves playing Stevie Ray and walk around doing air guitar.

So many other way more talented guitarists.

Yes...he was good...but he wasn't *that* good.
