Little talk in a class tomorrow... What is a business that could easily reduce costs?

I have to give a speech type of thing (under 3 minutes) tomorrow in my management class, and the set up is I am the manager of the class (my workers), and I have to announce to them that we need to reduce costs...

What type of company could easily reduce costs?

Here is my current plan:

Set up the company to be in downtown NYC.
-That way I can suggest moving out of the city to reduce rent costs.
-Or moving just over the border to Jersey to save on taxes.

But I still cannot think of what type of business would be best for easy suggestions...

Let me know if you have any ideas, cause I am stuck.

Thanks
Josh

{EDIT} Ok, I think I am set, thanks for the inputs :){/EDIT}

A conglomerate, and you're the CEO: just yell and berate all the heads of the departments (read: other students) for three minutes to reduce costs!

Voila, you're done! ;)

Reduce waste and baggage (ie fire people). Restructure. Outsourcing. Just read any business news articles nowadays.

Huh? How will that cut costs? To offset the cost of moving inventory, staff (firing/hiring new ones), etc will take an extremely long time.

Let him think what he wants - he's the one getting laughed at tomorrow in class.

I have to try and actually address issues, not jusut pass on blame to others...

Restructuring could work, but it is supposed to be positive ideas, firing would be too easy....

What I am really looking for is a type of company that would have easy reduction methods compared to other types of companies?

It is an entry level management class, and they won't think of that stuff... that is why I want to think of an easy business type to make suggestions for...

That's simple too: while you're berating the others, "tell" (force/pressure) them into giving you suggestions - then take it and act like it was your own idea to begin with!

Welcome to real life!

Create a large computer tech support company. Make them the help desk associates. Fire them all except the cutest girl (you need an EA) and tell them you are outsourcing.

Or

Create a independent crop picking company and tell them they are fired because it will now be easier to hire illegals for less money.

Actually, I think I will use the tech support idea, just not with the firing... though there are a few girls in there I wouldn' mind keeping as my assistants ;)

Why not a samewhat major Airline like Northwest Airlines then have them take over the Southwest approach to things. (ie, only one type of Airplane, reduces training and maintaince cost. Plus they fly one of the safest airplanes ever. Also southwest makes their pilots be certified to fly a 737 before the get hired (Training a pilot on a 737 is about 900 bucks an hour and I think it is about 40 or so hours. etc)

On a serious note take any company crosstrain employees, reduce redundant paperwork, take new bids for work that is contracted and also supplies, update aging systems ie. computers, layoff employees that are not dedicated, put more responsibility on employees that are left, cutout overtime, drug test so insurance is cheaper, remove unecassary middle management etc.

Ok, thanks for the input guys, I decided to go with the idea that we are a tech support division for an internet service provider. Hopefully they can think of easy ways to cut costs, I set them up with a few in the speech, so as long as they are listening.
