eBay's got this script or something that counts how many characters you've typed into the feedback text box. Might it be possible to get something like this for the Profile box, so we know how many characters we have left to use, or by how far we've gone over?
Or is this something to suggest to the Fusetalk people directly?
And, for the images. Look into PNG. It might not be as viable because it's newer than GIF, and maybe not as compatible then, but it can possibly be used to squish down some images like avatars and emoticons. Using Irfanview and the PNGOUT plugin, the generic
can be reduced from 636 bytes to 570. My avatar, from 1,617 bytes, to 1,581. Not a huge savings, but I'd imagine it would amount to something with all the visitors to the site. I don't know how widespread PNG's acceptance is out there, but I certainly like it.
