Depending upon the size of your employer, they may be self insured and the insurance company is only the administrator of the plan. So you might be able to appeal the up front cash thru your HR Rep.

Your healthcare coverage is also funded by fellow tax payers.

Remember, you get a tax break on the expenses AND your employere does as well.

So those millions of workers out there who pay income and payroll taxes (or whatever other form of tax) yet dont qualify for medicaid and whose employer doesnt offer HC and are in fact subsidizing YOUR healthcare.

Insurance is provided through my employer.

My wife works for a local small business who does not provide health insurance.

My wife could get better health care if we divorced and she quit her job.

But then again, we do not want to mooch off of the system.
I can personally see why you're pissed.

This is a prime example as to why corporate tax deductions for health insurance should be removed and why individuals should get all deductions for all health care expenses.

The Democrats knew damn well that that would reduce the cost of the health care, but they instead chose to raise it. Affordable Care Act my ass! It should've been called the Corporate Health Care Act.

So you're angry about having to pay for a necessary medical procedure, and instead of suggesting an alternative to the system we have now, you turn your ire to the people that actually do get care? That seems like a poor way to look at it.

errr i think he is bitching that the hospital wants payment up front and i agree with him thats bullshit.

i dont agree with a lot of what TH post but this one i do.

So vote your self interest. When you vote your fears or your hatreds, you allow politicians to use you to promote their interests, not yours. Let your reps know you want to see a single payer system that covers everyone, including you.
What's ironic is that poor people and rich people seem to be the most skilled at this.

Free welfare? Sign that shit up yo!
Extremely low tax rates for the wealthy? Indeed, sign my white ass up!
The people in the middle are retarded, and they make up the middle 80% of the country. Yes I am saying 80% of people are retarded.

The middle are just generous, selfless people that are able to put their own self interests aside and do something nice for others. The left wants to do nice things for the poor, the right wants to do nice things for the rich.

Thank you. The money is not the issue, its the principle of the matter.

Something that has not been brought up, the end of the year is the worst time to have surgery. We fork out $2,000 sometime in November or December, something goes wrong, wife has to go back to the hospital in January.

After January 1st, we would owe another $2,000 - $2,500.

Worse case situation, we would have to fork out $4,000 - $5,000 in 2 months "just" for the deductible and 20%.

Not a lot of people have $4,000 - $5,000 spare changing just laying around.

They are full of self hate. They want the rich and poor to live comfortable lives while making their own lives as hard as possible.

He's not angry that he needs to pay for services. He's angry that different people have different rules. His taxes pay for poor people, but his own taxes don't pay for him or his family. It feels like straight up theft.
The real solution is to have medicaid cover everyone. If you have cash and you can get premium service, that's great, but medicaid should still cover everyone. If you don't have the cash, you wait in line like Canadians do.

Agreed, single payer is the way to go, and the sooner people stop voting against their own interests, the sooner we'll have it.

Single Payer is a pipe dream it would put the Insurance Companies who are raping us out of Biz. Plus Sarah Palin said it would create "Death Panels". ;)

I never said I did not have the money.

Exactly. My wifes health is worth a lot more then $2,000. If the surgery means she can live a pain free life, I will sell everything I have.

But, why should I pay for someone elses free medical care, when I have to fork out thousands of dollars to help my wife live pain free?

My wife can not get the medical care she needs without jumping through hoops, but someone that refuses to work and mooches off the system is taken care of.

We will probably wait until after the first of the year, pay our part, and she will have the surgery. Paying $2,000 - $2,5000 so close to the end of the year is a poor decision.

It pisses me off that I pay my taxes, work a full time job, and still have to pay out the rear end when my wife or I need medical care. But yet, people can live on the system for years, and do not have to pay hardly anything.

Nor did I; it's just that you don't want to spend it in such a messed up system, right?

See if you can switch to a plan that allows a year AFTER you've paid your deductible.

Blue Cross PPO switched to that system after a lot of people bitched about the "calendar" system.

Best of luck to you both.

And please stop bashing the poor...if you think they have it so good, try on their shoes for a while.

My wife has a cyst on her ovary, and her doctor said either the cyst or the ovary needs to be removed. Sometimes the pain is so bad, she hurts just walking around the house. We have health insurance, so this should be easy enough - wrong.

The insurance and the hospital want us to pay our full deductible up front "before" she can have the surgery. The price we were given is around $2,500O that needs to be paid upfront. So my wife needs the surgery to be pain free, but we need a couple of grand before her standard of living can be improved.

What "really" pisses me off, is people on Medicaid can get everything they need at almost no cost to them. My tax dollars go to people who in some cases do not want to work, and spend a good part of their lives mooching off the system. While I work, try to provide for my family, and we have to fork out several thousand dollars before my wife can have a surgery?

And we wonder why the US is having so many financial problems?

For low - medium income families, what is the incentive to get married? When people can have the kids they want, mooch off the system, get all the food stamps and medicaid they need.

I know a family that has 2 kids on medicaid, a few weeks ago they took the kids to have their teeth cleaned. My job does not provide dental insurance,,, well they do, but I have to pay 100% of the insurance cost.

When did the lower class become a class of entitlements? There are people out here who try provide for themselves and their family, and are kicked every time they turn around.

Welcome to the Conservative Paradise, good-bye to the old days when a job came with health, life insurance and a retirement fund (company paid) as perks to compete with union shops. You don't like America, get the hell out!

It doesn't create death panels as much as it creates retarded long wait times. I had to wait 2 god damn hours at the clinic to see a doctor to get a prescription refilled. What the hell man. Seriously. My gf has it even worse; she's trying to get a particular medication but doctors won't give it to her because they're assholes. She needs to keep going back and saying this medication doesn't work, can I try another. She has already missed several days of work just to see fucking doctors.

Anyone who thinks medications should require prescription is a retard and should be killed. They are what is wrong with medicine. They are the reason I need to miss work just to get some fucking pills that I need to live.

My experience seems to be that people think everyone should have crap coverage though. They find out what my co-pays are (no deductibles) and instead of "I wish I had that" it's, "you don't deserve that." People don't want "as good" they want equally shitty, it seems.

I have been there, it aint no fun. There were times when I did not have gas money to get back and forth to work.

There is difference between someone who tries to help themselves, and someone who mooches off the system.

Example - I know a family where the husband/father will go to work on temporary jobs that he knows will not last very long, get laid off, draw unemployment for a year (not even look for a job), and at the same time his 2 and 4 year old sons are drawing medicaid.

What can you say about someone that does not look for a job until their unemployment is about to run out? And at the same time the family is drawing food stamps, WIC and medicaid.
