little question about politics

lately i have started little more interest in politics and what not,
and i was just wondering about couple of stuff...real basic stuff

how's conservative & liberal ppl different?
& how are they related to left & right wing?

Conservatives are right (hah), and liberals are wrong. All you need to know.

Contemporary conservatives are kind of radical, and contemporary liberals are kind of conservative. Labels mean jack. Think for yourself. This forum is actually a good tool for that job, lurk and learn. 🙂

I think "liberal", "conservative", l"eft and right wing" are cliches in that they are overused to the point where they do not mean anything. You have to find out where people stand on each issue.

i was just bit confused about whole terms cuz
for example, i thought certain party (demo vs repub.) are bound to one side,
like democrats being conservative while republicans are liberals,
but i guess you can be a republican & conservative?

which brings another question,

so it's your stand on general issue that determines whether you are a democrat or republican here in usa?

hmm...was never really interested in politics till now, well...at least who's running this country.

Actually it's Republicans that are aligned Conservatively and the democrats who are liberal/progressive/whatever the term of the day is.

Pretty much - yes. Each "side" seems to have some pretty fundamental issues that the other side doesn't agree with. However ideology isn't a set in stone thing where you can't be X if you believe Y. It's more of an issue of where most of your opinions on the issues fall based on how important those issues are to you.
Like take for instance Abortion. Typically liberals agree with abortion and don't want it restricted but I know some liberals who don't think abortion should be legal(except in few cases) but they don't feel THAT strongly about the issue in general.
There are cross-overs on probably every "issue" but like I said - it's mainly decided by where most of you opinions lie -weighed by how important those issue are to you.
