Little problem with CRT monitor

I have an HP 17" CRT Monitor, had it for 4 years I believe. Worked perfectly fine, until one day I tured it on and when booted to the Windows desktop, I was greeted with a very very wide view...talk about widescreen...the picture clarity is still perfect, its just that the screen is so wide, like the start button can't be seen at all, but when I press the windows button on my keyboard it pops up. Can this be fix? or is it done for? I tried to re-adjust, and even did a recall to manufacturer settings...sigh, sad day... 🙁

two possibilities:

1. use the controls on the actual monitor to adjust the width of the image until it looks fine
2. if the screen pans when you move the mouse to the sides or top/bottom, you need to change the "maximum" resolution to somethign higher than the resolution you're running. right click on your desktop -> Settings -> Advanced -> search aroudn for it, usually there's a displays tab and you can click a "button" above an image of a monitor...
