Just got off the phone with Nikon. I purchased the 990 from them over the weekend and when I spoke to mpsuperstore CSR this morning he was saying stuff like "now this is the international version, it has a different color stripe..."

Apparently there are two cameras marketed---international and American. Authorized dealers only sell retail boxes meant to sell in America. Other dealers are allowed to sell overseas cameras here but not under the "Authorized" label. She also said that there is a more limited warranty for the overseas camera vs. the retail American box.

I've heard of grey market cameras and not sure if the "international" version would fall under that heading or not. I think everything will be ok but I am a little nervous. It seems like most of the bad camera purchase stories you hear about comes out of the New York area. (Not a slam to NY's)

Just thoroughly check the contents to make sure it's what it's supposed to be.

LOL! Warrantee is generally sent overseas, on gray market items. ...and all may be printed in another language.
Buenos suerte'.

If they aren't disclosing that these are gray market and selling them as US (any normal US purchase), it is FRAUD! Shove the MS Passport up their...and refuse delivery. Gray is always 20% less +/-.

How can I get MSN passport 20% discount?
I don't see any passport express purchase button from their site.

Palace? Spread the sawdust...there'll be Microcrap flying.
Gray market would be upscale for them.

Wow!
I even saw the 20/20 (or other news magazine) article a few months ago about some New York stores that were selling these grey market items.

And yet...I went ahead without checking!

Why in the heck would Microsoft just let anyone use their system?
Let's sue Microsoft.....just kidding!
