Just picked up a shinny new EVGA 8800gt with the stock clocks. Was planning on doing a little OCing and just had a couple questions as it has been almost a year since I have messed around with any video card OCing:

1) Suggestions on a good tool to use

2) What clocks should I be shooting for? Like I said above I have OCed before but I don't want to go super crazy since i'll be staying with the stock cooler.

3) What temps are too high for the card with a stock EVGA cooler?

thanks for any help.

Use Riva Tuner for raising clocks and ATI tool to test for stability. Clocks vary from card to card, for example my Gigabyte 8800 GT does only 685 mhz on the core, but there are others that hit 750+ mhz.

As for the memory some say that is dangerous to go over 2000 mhz, my card did some very ugly stuff at the frequency, but maybe you are lucky.

Your normal temperature with the stock cooler I guess it is quite high, around 80 C, maybe over, but it wont increase to much as long as you don't raise the voltage. Keep in mind that although stock cooled 8800 GT runs hot, I don't think it's healthy to get over 90 C.

I haven't found mine to be hot or loud. I think the key is good case air flow. It does 700-2000 no sweat.

I think some 8800GTs are made with samsung chips that clock like crazy for memory... I'm not sure. One guy said he got 1115 (x 2 = 2230MHz) with stock cooler.

Everything else has been said.

What is your temperature then? Mine did 86 C with good air flow in the case, but with the fan speed on stock.
