1.) What do you plan on doing with you PC? I plan to use it as a media center and a casual gaming rig. My last “rig” seems to hold its own decently. I played Far Cry 2, Bullet Storm, Fallout 3/New Vegas, and portal 2. It is a Q6600 G0 on a gigabyte board with a 4850 in it. So something that would be able to hold its own on those games while serving its basically HTPC purpose. My desktop is my entertainment center. It is everything. I would also like to be able to play 3D blu-ray “from a disk” wink. High Quality audio is a great plus as well. I see gigabyte has dolby certification, but I haven’t seen a board with DTS. Would love that.

2.) Price range……about $750-$800 give or take. The cheaper the better though. 20%!

3.) I will be purchasing within USA.

4.) Brand preference. None really. I like the stuff that I have in my older PC. Gigabyte mobo, sapphire VC, intel cpu, g.skill ram. Seems all legit and working but I can go with anything as I am not a pro.

5.) Parts that will be reused. I will be reusing the PS from my old PC (600w OCZ), and the optical drive. And hard drives are not an issue. I would like to get a cheap smaller, but not tiny SSD for this. Most media will probably be streamed from the older PC. Also found some manu's have refurbed cases on their sites online store that i can get a lot cheaper than newegg or tigerdirect, so ill be doing that as well.

6.) Have you done your own research? Ive read only a few threads lately basically comparing CPU’s and talking about new tech. That is why I am asking for advice.

7.) Do you plan to overclock? Maybe once or twice for fun and screencaps. Other than that, no.

8.) What resolution? It will be hooked up to my 42” Philips so 192x1080 for EVERYTHING!

9.) When do you plan to build it? Preferably before the year is over LOL!

10.) I got a pretty think skin.

Other thoughts: I would prefer intel but some AMD rumors say the new CPU’s will be beastly, but it always seems that AMD is good for about a month before intel pushes out their newest CPU and crushes amd. I wish intel was more like AMD with reusing the same socket for everything even though I hear AMD is going to be switching for the Bulldozer cpu. And I would prefer to not get something that would be outdated in less than a month. That would just aggravate me lol. I would like to be able to not worry about swapping parts for a while.

What is intel coming out with in the future? Should I wait with the limited budget I have?
i also found the i7-960 for 199

tl;dr
Recap on parts needed:
CPU, Video card, motherboard, RAM. Case will be $80. And i would like an ssd but not a necessity
