i need a low level format program. something that is lower than dos and that i can put on a disk and boot off of. i need it to clear a virus on my hard drive.

You need to go to the HD manufacturers website and get the utility that is specific for your dirve. Sure you can't use a clean, write-protected floppy to do an fdisk/format?
