Do any of you military types know or remember the difference between APO, FPO and such?

I remember when I was overseas, as Army, I was APO. I think the navy and marines were FPO.

Anybody know?

I'm writing to a young soldier in the theater and want to send some goodies. It would be helpful if I knew which branch of service he is in.
 
That's what I was trying to figure out. I don't want to send foot powder to someone in the navy on a ship. I'm sure you know what I mean. I just want to send the guy something he can use.
