Little Harddrive help?

I just installed a 40 gb hd under windows XP

the drive was recognized by the bios and windows xp, but it isn't showing up under my computer. can anyone tell me why?

what can i do to cause it to appear under my computer? and how do i format it under XP?

right click on my computer and go to manage...

go to disk managment and just find your drive on there and partition it
