Gday,

Lately ive been having an annoying crashing occur with my system on startup in windows 98se.

Usually occuring on the login screen, once 'ok' has been clicked, the computer crashes, and small vertical green lines appear at the top of the monitor. Any ideas?

Also my ABIT KT7 is riddled with technical stuffups...
[Latest VIA drivers and Abit drivers installed, freshly reformatted]

1. Lots of VXD errors in 98SE
2. Hard drive does not run in DMA mode at all, only PIO - this is a common error i hear, and is apparently Abit's fault, however they havent responded to my emails or offered any support - i am angry.
3. Plenty more, but these i can handle, like upon 'power on' the video card doesnt activate, it requires a manual reset to get it working.

Thanks for any help, im at an end - the Abit site has been down for a while and i can't send them more complaints :)

Hi,

I have a Kt7 and i have had those crashes with the green lines.....its not the KT7 at all....if you have an nvidia based video card running detonator 3 drivers, you need to disable fastwrites and agp 4x....I was using agp 4x for the longest time with the detonator 3 drivers, but was getting weird random lockups that I thought was caused by my RAM. It was AGP 4x that somehow caused the card to want too much power, shutting down the system and for a few minutes anyways, killing the card. Just disable agp 4x and see how it goes....I'm asuming you have an nvidia graphics board cause there isnt a whole lot else out there. Anyways

the PIO mode thing is weird, but i only get it when my system is packed with 4 ide devices
the abit site is not down...i just went the other day, to check on BIOS updates, which BTW you should see if you have the 2nd release

ok have fun, hopefully that solves your problem
