Little gold screw-ins

Rebuilding my computer for the first time in about five years. The first time I rebuilt it, I had someone helping me. Normally I work with stock machines, HPs, Dells, ect. Nerves are kicking in, messing with my money and my machine and all. So I have a couple questions, mostly to put my mind at ease. In my case there are four little gold connectors that ground the machine to the board. Old board just had four screw holes, new board has nine. I only have four of these connectors, guy that help me took the rest of them. -_-;;
I don't think it'll hurt anything only using four screws, but this board has places for nine.

Also, I have an Asus EVO board. The case I have is a generic super talent Xblade. The interal speaker plug on the case will not reach the plug in on the board for it. Anyone know of an extention or a way to jerry-rig it?

as for the stand offs, (gold things), are you saying that there is only 4 in the case or you have 4 extra?

if there is 4 extra, just add them to the the proper spots on the case.

if there is only 4 in the case total, you can try just using the 4, should be fine. i would only worry about board flexing when installing components.
you could try some local repair shops to see if they can give you a few.

Don't use a heavy aftermarket heatsink if you have your board supported by 4 mobo standoffs at the corners. The additional stress applied to your board could potentially damage it, especially if you ever bumped or moved your case.

If you are using the stock i5/i7 cooler (I'm assuming you mean Asus P7P55D Evo board) then you might be ok. I would obtain additional standoffs ASAP as mounting the board from 4 corners is less than optimal.

At the end of the day cost of standoffs - $5 + 20 mins installation. Cost of replacing a damaged mobo ~ $160+.

Most good electronics shops or computer shops would probably have them. If you're in the UK:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=37594
OR
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=29097

A word of caution though: before you buy any, take one of your original ones with you as some cases (and these stand-offs are usually supplied with the computer case) are supplied with different height stand-offs (e.g. the ones in the screw kit example above are taller than just the pack of replacement stand-offs).
Mixing lengths would unnecessarily and unhealthily bend the board when screwed down, as well as mess up expansion card fitting.

Just mount the speaker closer if possible.

Too bad I'm not in the uk. There aren't any computer or electronic stores in my town that sell anything like that. I know because I work in the only such store in the whole town. Yay for backwoods US towns. I'll see if I can't order some from somewhere, though. Thanks for the links, though.

Hot glue on the magnet side of the speaker puts it wherever you want it.

edit: Don't forget matching screws for the standoffs. Some are fine thread, but most are course thread, and they are metric.

Found some on Amazon. Got a set of 15 with matching screws. Tried Tigerdirect, but the shipping was three times more than the standoffs and didn't come with screws. Thankfully I'm an amazon prime member. Two day shipping for free. ^_^
I can't wait to move. I'll be going to a much larger city and I'll actually have a computer store around to get spare parts if I need them.
