LITOEN CD-R wont run full speed...

Hello..just installed a LITEON 32X?12X/40X CD burner into my XP Home AMD XP1700 ABIT KG7 system.

When burning a CD, the drop down write choices show only up to 24X write altho this is a 32X write burner.
The read is fine at 40X. I copy the files I want to reproduce to my HDD first then copy those to the CD blank via Nero 5.0. The blanks read up to 32X also.

How can I get the LITEON to run at 32X write. Its also on the same DMA cable as my CD-ROM, but the CD-ROM does not operate when I copy files from the HDD to the blank CD. Is there a setting somewhere that Ive missed selecting?

Nero 5.0 doesnt understand any 32X burners. You need to update to the latest version which is 5.5.7.2

I actually had the exact same problem with a 32X Liteon Burner that would only burn at 24X (even after having upgraded to the newest version of Nero, 5.5.7.2). It actually turned out to be the type of media I was using that was holding me back. If you use cheaper media Nero will auto detect and approximate the fastest/most stable burning speed and limit your speed options accordingly.

At the time I was trying to burn on some cheaper media (Fry's weekly special) ... and even though it was rated at 32X Nero would only allow me to burn at the 24X option ... I than tried some Fuji (TY media) and guess what ... the 32X option became available. So try switching your media and see if that helps.

Will check the Nero version here..think its 5.7 but will verify and yes am using el cheapo "GQ" brand Frys CD blanks rated at 32X.
Can I install and run BOTH Nero ver 5-something and Roxio ver 5 or not?

I'm pretty sure its just the media you are using. Try popping in the CD's that came w/ the drive (if you got a retail version), those should give you a max speed of 32x on the CD-R. I had the same problem as you and went out and jumped on that TDK 50 spindle for 2.99 ...fixed everything up.
