I realize that I use it incorrectly sometimes and would like some clarification. Dictioanry.com did not suffice:(

Any example and such would be appreciated, with respect to its use vs using 'figuratively' etc

Well, there's "beating a dead horse" figuratively, and beating a dead horse literally = *whap*

dont ever say "i literally pissed my pants i laughed so hard" unless you actually did.
but then you should probably keep it to yourself.
people constantly toss out an "i literally lost my mind i was so angry" etc

"I would like to learn how to use the word 'literally.'" is a great example on how to use the word 'literally' literally.

funny story, one day i asked my coworker how it was at work last night and she said "oh kat, we literally f*cked the dog last night".

I had never heard the phrase before and she did say LITERALLY.. oh man, I laughed for like an hour.
