LiteOn LTR-24102B flashing problems

Hey gang:

When I click FLASH and answer "yes" to: "Update: FW:5S0D to FW:5S54", I keep getting a message stating: "Remove disc, before to do the flash task." Once I hit OK, it throws me back into the flash utility. There's no disc in my drive and I've just freshly rebooted, so I'm not sure what's going on. I'm using Windows 2000 SP2.

Have you guys had any experience with this?

I flashed two drives so far w/o any trouble. If i recall this right, the utility asks you to choose the right drive when ready to flash the BIOS.
I wonder that by having two drives installed (a CD drive and a CDR drive) you have been choosing the wrong drive (CD drive that is) which maybe has a CD in it. Don't laugh! It can happen!

Let us know!

ucant back flash if u flash to the new firmware
still with what u got

Lore,

I hate to say it, but if you aren't having problems with your CDRW then don't flash it.. 🙂

Sometimes it's really beneficial to flash a drive even if it's working well. I remember flashing my ricoh 4x4x20 to a 6x4x20. I upped my burning speed to 6x and my burner became cdclone compatible, also burning audio cd became alot stabler.

If he ISN'T having problems then there is NO reason whatsoever to flash his firmware.. In your example, you ARE talking about "problems", so in YOUR case it WAS beneficial and it still follows what I originally said.. Uhm.. 🙂

Granted, however, it still doesn't explain why I can't do it, which is what bothers me. Maybe in the future I will have to flash it -- what do I do then?

I can understand THAT concern.. I have the same CDRW, I also have the 5S0D firmware just like you and I won't flash the firmware until I need to do so.. Therefore, I can't tell you if it works for me or not since I won't do it.. Don't worry about it for now -- I'd suggest leaving them (Lite On) a message.. 🙂

By the way, you probably have to flash from a bootable formatted diskette.. So, get a clean diskette, format it bootable, place the necessary files all in the same directory including the correct flash program and flash data file.. Boot up your PC, making sure that it's set to boot from A: first and it'll most likely work that way.. 🙂

DN: I normally would do that, but the flash program is Windows based.

I just tried flashing to 5S0J (the one right before the 5S54) and it'll go through but nothing changes... the firmware still says 5S0D. Weird!

Has anyone else had any problems flashing their LiteOn burner? What IDE channel and setting do you guys use (Slave/master, etc)?

I tried flashing my 1210B and I got KILLED. My drive is now completely 187'd by the stupid firmware. I want to see if I can "downgrade" my firmware to get it back to working condition, maybe DOS firmware or something. Maybe i'll experiment with it. I've had no luck with getting LITE-ON to recover or replace it...so just lay off the firmware.

I was never able to flash the drive to the latest firmware using Windows 2000 so I used a friend's ME machine to flash it. By the way -- LiteOn sent me the DOS version of the 5S54 firmware so if you need it let me know. It should work on your system regardless...
