Liteon DVD drive not recognized

New build, drive was found by XP for install from disc, but now not shown in My Computer. PATA drive, connection is good, enabled ports in BIOS. Tried different cables. Any ideas?
 
does it show up in device manager? if so, disconnect the drive, then disconnect it from the dm. reboot. then power down and reinstall the drive. see if reinstalling cleanly would help xp set it up correctly.
 
Now it doesn't show in BIOS. Nor in device manager. Will try to reinstall again, then will update. Thanks for replies! If anyone else wants to take a stab at it, please don't hesitate. I'm stumped.
 
I'd try it in another PC on the off chance it's bad.

Could also try another IDE channel in case it's bad

Also check the power connector to it. If neccessary hook up a case fan to the connector (or the HDD etc) to make sure it's actually supplying power.
