I am about to get a CDRW and am looking at either the LiteOn 48X12X48 or the LiteOn 52X24X52 CDRW. Would the higher speed of the 52X24X52 drive actually be noticed, and would it cause any problems by being too fast?

Yup. Even the recorder speed is up...to me...it's cosmetic coz u r talking bout 48 vs. 52.

If you plan on doing any disc to disc copying, you'll find the performance of the source disc drive will make a bigger difference on the total burn time than the small differences between 48x and 52x.

With a 52x (versus 48x), you'll save enough time to get up, run to the kitchen (at full speed), grab a can of budweiser, and come back to the room (only if you're living in a small studio).

get the cheaper one- i got both and i dont even notice the difference--just make sure youre using a media capable of high speed writing...lite-on drives are more quiet compared to other brands of the same speed..
