My liteon 811s burns too slow with Nero 5.5.10.54 (support 811s), the media I used is Ridata (Ritek) 4x DVD+R bought from newegg. Firmware is updated, DMA is turned on, and cable is new. I am burning data (not movie) with 4x DVD+R at 6x, now one hour passed, Nero only finished 20% of the process! Display still shows burning 8,280KB/s, what a cheat! Should I upgrade to Nero 6.x or just return the liteon dvd burner? From previous thread, I read some negative feedbacks for liteon dvd burner 811s, mine is bought from OM, pacific digital brand, maybe a mistake. any similiar experience or idea? thanks in advance.

maybe that is the right choice, being a liteon cd burner user for couple years, it is really a pity to see those junks from liteon, sigh...

Well, um...yeah.

Budman told me not to get the LiteOn 811/851. He told me it sucks. Then he PM'd me and reminded me that he told me it sucks.

I ignored him and got it anyway! Ha!

Guess what?

It sucked.

Ha on me!

Budman sucks. ;) J/K He was right from the get-go.

LiteOn makes the best CDRWs IMHO. Their DVD burners are junk. Pfft.

I returned it last week and am just waiting for the credit to show up on my CC. I'll be getting the NEC DVD burner.

I have the Lite-On 851S, which is basically the same burner, but it doesn't take anyway near as long as yours to burn. In most cases, the burning process is done within the 15-20 minutes for movies and much faster for data at 4x (8x is even faster). I'm using the same Ritek stuff from Newegg. I am using Nero 6.0 though.

Brian48,

I had the 851S and had nothing but problems with it. I am running Nero 6 w/the latest patches. It burned slow with various types of media, both CD and DVD.

It didn't autostart with about 75% of all the CDs you put in there. It autostarted on DVDs though. Also, it's DAE was pitiful.

I am glad that you're not having probs w/yours...you must have an early version or something. You're one of the few folks that hasn't sent theirs back yet.

I'm most probably picking up the NEC2500...maybe the Pioneer if the price comes down in the next few days...

Yep. Heard a lot of negative things about the Lite-ons myself, but thankfully I haven't had any problems with mine. It was only $80 so I thought it was worth the risk considering how reliable my Lite-On DVD/CDRW combo drives have been. No problems auto-starting or booting with any of the DVDs or CD's I've tried. The only media I've encountered that's given me any problems is the generic stuff some from a local computer chain (Microcenter), but that's only if I burn at 4x (which is what the blank is rated for). Reducing the rate to 2x solves the problem even with the cheap stuff.
