lol.. true. if the hackin and the l337 factor is important, then liteon might be a more satisfying purchase.

Have you done this? How well does it work?

If you have any qualms about hacking the drive, then I suggest spending the extra dough on latest LiteOn.

Although, hacking the drive actually upgrades the 411s to the 811s. Not just a firmware upgrade, it will write at true 8x.

i love my liteon along with booktype which turns my dvd+r to dvdroms so now they work on everything i've tested it on.

In the last two weeks I've hacked 2 liteon 451s to 851s.
Both are turning out dvd's without a hitch, and have burned 6 +r's @ 8 speed.

Liteon is all I've bought the last 2 years (cdrw, dvd rom, dvdrw; hacked and unhacked) and have had 0 problems.
