Liteon 48X only burns at 40X?

I have a brand new Liteon 48X burner and Nero only lets it rip at 40X. I have the latest version or Nero (from the Ahead website) and I am using media rated at 48X. Anybody else seen this problem?

Yes, I have. I bought two of these lighton drives and one is still in the box until I find out the answer. I wonder if it is a media problem, but I haven't narrowed to that conclusion yet. It could be a firmware problem.

Do you get a 48x option if you turn off SmartBurn? If you do then it's a media problem. You can download the SmartBurn media check program here

The version of Nero that came with my drive only shows 32x as the max for my 40x Liteon burner.
It might just need an update cause I see that there's a 52x burner now and it should have newer Nero software.

Thanks for the replys. I used the program that Cheelew suggested and it said that the media would only do 40X with smartburn.

It's your media... some media only allows you to burn at certain speed, while others allow you to burn at full speed...

Someone should really put this into the FAQ, this question gets asked in these forums almost daily...

Definately your media, make sure you get 48x speed media

had the same problem. just disable smartburn and you'll be as good as gold

I updated the firmware on this drive and now it will burn fine at 48X.
