Something is wrong with my drive. It acquires too much errors when ripping. I don't know if it's the drive's fault or the software's. When I used WinDAC, i get an exact copy at 48x without errors, but when i use Creative Playcenter, I get like tons of clicks, pops, skips and etc.
Any comments or suggestions?

I bet it the playcenter. Creative SW sucks. I never use their apps. The MD recoder mutilates mp3 sounds, playcenter take 2 mins just to start to play a disk. Use something else like audiograbber and LAME.

Make that three. Creative, is not. I use CDex 1.3 http://cdex.n3.net , works great. In the CD-ROM tab in Settings, I set Read Sectors to 26, disabled Jitter Correction, set CD Speed to 48, and CDROM Setting to [Custom]. I'm using the included LAME encoder, one of the best in the business.

Pretty apparent whos problem it is. If one software works perfectly, but the other software comes up with cracks and pops...it's definately the software!

CDex 1.3 is awesome. I use it whenever i wanna convert wav/mp3's. Good stuff!!! I definately recommend it.

Somebody on this site (can't find the post!) suggested upgrading the firmware (BIOS) of the LTD163 to fix problems reading CDR's. They gave this link to the firmware.

Well, I upgraded from GH4F to the latest version GH5K, and now my drive is no longer a 16X DVD ripper. With the old BIOS, I could rip DVD's using SpeedRipper at ~14X, now it just pokes along a 4X across the whole disk. I even tried many different versions of SpeedRipper. This is BS. It acts just like the POS 16X Toshiba I sent back because it was crippled to rip DVD's at only 4X.

Oh, and to make things even worse, you can't simply flash the old BIOS back into the drive. Once you update, the install program won't let you go back. I have the old GH4F BIOS but I can't install it. I feel like Liteon has ripped me off, crippling my drive AFTER it's bought and paid for.

Hasn't anyone else had this problem?

My dvd rip speeds were also quite slow (max 8X & averaging at 4-5X). Do I need a new firmware? What about the Region-unlocking firmware? Worth it?
