lite on xj-hd-166s problems ripping

I just received this dvd-rom today and anxiously installed it into my computer. I was tired of ripping my dvd's with my burner so this was my solution. After trying it out I still am only getting rip speeds of 1.8x. I am running windows 2000. Have any of you guys had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
