I really like LG stuff. Lite-On sounds cheesy.. :p

I use LG at home, and at work... never problems.

recently burned 700 CD's for work... all 700 burned completely fine without a problem on a 16x, 24, 32x LG burners. That impressed me.

I have an LG 8x burner. It has never let me down in the last two years and creates perfect CD's everytime, even with not so good media. Definately recommended.

I had a change to test both LG 40x12x40 and Lite-On 40x12x48 speed burners. Both worked just fine, BUT the LG drive is MUCH quieter!!! For me this was a plus enough to take the LG!!! Also Lite-On has 2Mb buffer as opposed to 8Mb in the LG, another plus.

Vote for the LG!

this may be an old thread, but let me tell you my experience...

I bought an LG 24x burner with the 8mb buffer from CompUSA for $30, and now I own a LiteOn (BUSLink 48x, burning at 40x b/c of cd's). Yes the LG is much quieter, but my LG was defective or something b/c it would only burn at speeds of 7x-9x. I don't know if it's b/c of my round cables or my configuration....but the second I got the LiteOn drive, all of my problems were solved.

When the LiteOn drive says 40x speed, it means it. my cd's are done in less thatn 4 minutes or so. The LG would say it's burning at 24x and yet, it'd take 10-11 minutes to finish! Maybe it's Roxio, but now I use Nero and it's much better. The only sorry thing is I'm stuck with this 24x LG drive.

Just my POV, but get the Lite On....though my LG might've just been misconfigured. i've got more testing to do with it.

The support network for the Lite-On drive will be much more apparent. With burn-proof technologies, the buffer sizes appear to matter very little in this day and age. a 52x Lite-On drive with 2 mb of cache will still burn a disc in 2 minutes, 30 seconds.

If you don't care about support for CloneCD, firmware updates, etc. - then go with the LG drive. However, if you want to "play" - by overclocking, trying other firmware releases, etc. - then go for the Lite-On.

Well, I don't have any experiences with LG drives, but my Liteon has been working perfectly since day one.

On a sidenote, I remember reading a comparison between a bunch of drives, don't remember if there was any LG there, but anyway, the reviewer did note that the Plextor and Liteon did make a bit more noise, and attributed some of the noises to the fact that LG and Plextor both use alot of metallic components, such as gears and such, which makes more noise, but also makes the drive more durable.

My LG 32x burner having the same problem. I call LG to do a RMA ..and they are me for a resit which i dont have. I end up with a defective drive right here with me.

of all the recent computers i've built, i've only used LG drives...16x CDRW, 32XCDRW, and a 12x/8x CDRW/DVD combo drive.

no problems - all are quiet and the faceplate looks nicer than lite-on's :)

I have one of each, and love them both. I think you are okay which ever you go with...

I have an LG cdrw 16x, never a bad burn, with over over 200 discs. Only thing I don't like is cdrwin is not supported.

At this stage in the game of burner technology they all should be decent.
The only one I would never buy is a BTC. I'd be careful of anyone that said "polaroid".
There was another outfit I'm leeery of but the name escapes me.

As for LG (Lucky Goldstar, remember Goldstar TVs?) and Liteon. Probably the 2 best budget burners.

CDRWIN? People still use that? Try Fireburner.

well i called LG and they tried to fix the problem over the phone, which they of course, could not do. Soooo, they're sending me a new drive in a couple of days and i'm mailing mine back with a shipping label they're sending me. Excellent customer service!
