I have 2 sata lite on dvd burners in my computer, they have been having a bit of trouble lately with some things. whenever i want to install a game or use a cd from them, they either take about ten minutes literally to spin up or when installing a game, the progress bar wont move at all, i left star wars :kotor on overnight and i didnt get any progress at all, my disc had only been used 4 times and doesnt have any scratches on it except minor ones you get just from handling the disc and putting it in its case. But what im wondering is if theres something wrong with my drives or if its just because they are sata devices. I am using Vista Ultimate 32bit with the

LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1S

thats the model name of my drive. Can anyone help me asap, i wanna play bf2, call of duty and other games but these drives wont read them.

I don't know of any fixes personally, but have you checked for possible firmware updates?

I might suggest contacting Lite-On; see if they have any ideas.

Well, first it is best to figure out if it is your drives or your system that is the problem.

What happens if you boot from the optical drive - does it manage ok, or does it try and spin for 10 minutes before finding anything?

I can't see both drives failing at the same time.
Check cables, different sata ports, firmware, OS, try drives in different system.

I have the same drive and aside from being a little loud while burning at 20X it has been hassle free.

yeah ive redone vista, and also went back to xp to see if that was the problem, nope, still does it in vista and in xp. I looked for firmware updates but couldnt find any, also ive tried different systems, and they still do it as well. But if anyone knows of any updates please tell me where to get them, im using a beasty computer for nothin but web games and msn at the moment:p Also it is with all media, but when i reinstalled both os's it did take a little longer with spin up than it did with my ide drives. Also i tried to contact lite on and they said it should work fine, and i tried about 10-12 different sata cables and all ended with the same result.

Try a different SATA port if you can. Have you checked your system logs to see if you're getting any errors?
