I am looking for a DVD-ROM to compliment my Pioneer DVR-105 DVD-R. Primarily I am looking for a good DVD ripper as well as a good CD Audio Extractor. Apparently the Lite-On LTD-163 excels in both of these areas (8X+ DVD rip, 22-48X Audio Rip). However, yours and my favorite dealer, Newegg is currently out of the LTD-163, but does have an LTD-166S which has next to no real world test data available on the web.

Can someone confirm that the LTD-166S performs as the LTD-163 does? I am really hoping that the newer LTD-166S isn't plagued by a slowed down DVD rip speed like so many of the newer dvd-rom's out there.

I purchased a LTD-166 line dvd-rom recently (the black one), and I'm quite pleased with it. I can't contrast with the 163, but I swear the 166 creates a CloneCD disk image of a CD in half the time it takes my Sony 52X CD-ROM to make an image of the same CD.

In short, subjectively the 166s are very fast. I doubt you'll regret picking one up.

Well I'm in the same position. I ordered one from NewEgg and it should be here in a day or two. I'll let you know how it performs.

i have that exact model (LTD-166S), i'm perfectly happy with it, although I swore my Pioneer slot-load outperformed it...
