Besides price, on newegg, the 05 model is 29.99 free shipping, the 06 model on the otherhand is 32.99 with $7.50 shipping. Besides being an updated version, does the 06 do anything better than the 05?

No difference really. One isn't newer than the other. The only differences AFAIK are that one is a bare drive (OEM) and the other comes in retail packaging along with a manual, cable, screws and possibly software.

Really? Mine is pretty quiet but it vibrates the entire desk.

Maybe your mounting screws are too long. Only about 3/16" (4mm) of thread should go into a drive.

Yes, it's just a normal SATA cable.
I have the 05 and it's no louder (or quieter) than my Samsung that died.
I have an external that uses the same drive without Lightscribe and it's not too loud either.
