Lite on iHBS112 will not burn any DVD's no matter how hard I try

No matter what I do, I have had 0 success burning any DVD's to this drive. I have moved it from my marvel to J micron to my intel ports and it always says burn process failed.

I tried again with Nero and got:
[17:35:10] ExpressUI Burn process completed successfully
[17:35:15] AMCUIBase Setting 'en-US' as Nero File Dialog language

Then just burning regular files I just get a failure.

I am assuming this is a driver or some setting I have wrong.

Would love any help, this is an OEM Lite on Drive I purchased from Tiger Direct back in August.

Thanks!

Edit: Trying a DVD+R DVD and it seems to be working. However a DVD-R from TDK does not work at all.

Do you have any ideas why +R would work but -R would fail?

If you're having problems with a particular set of media it is one of two things:

1) A compatibility problem that cannot be fixed.

2) A compatibility problem that can be fixed by a firmware update to the drive.

There are no drivers that will generally affect the performance of an optical drive. Your storage controller drivers may have a marginal impact, but not enough (usually) to cause it to make coasters or fail to burn.

Follow this link to see if firmware can be updated:

When is it failing? During calibration? Lead-in? Data? Lead-out? Verification?

What speed are you burning at?

What speed is the media rated for?

What is the media code (MID) of the disc?

Also, ImgBurn is better in part because it shows you things like the MID.

If I had to venture a guess, it's because you're using substandard media and burning them too fast. But that's just a guess, since there isn't much to go by.

I tested it with a DVD+R (RW) disc from Verbatim that is about 6 years old and it burned without an issue.

On my old Plextor DVDRW drive these DVD-R disks from TDK would work no problem. The only thing I have been able to burn is a 2meg file of memtest.

I am using Nero to burn the media so I know now it's not "technically a driver issue, but Driver Detective lists the ATAPI iHBS112 SCSCI CDROM Device as Invalid

The media is rated at 16X

I downloaded IMGBURN, how do I find hte MID, and everythign else? The Media has been good thus far with my other drives

Here is the code error at the end:

Smart Pack reads it as iHBS112 2 firmware PL06 which is the latest firmware

Smart-burn reads it as

Drive Type = BD
Drive S/N = 3772512014 216148500676
CD/DVD Life Record Count = 6
CD/DVD Record Count = 2
BD Life Record Count = 1
BD Record Count = 1
Disc Type = DVD-R (Single Layer)
Disc MID = 43 4D 43 20 4D 41 (CMC MA)
Disc TID = 47 2E 20 41 4D 33 (G. AM3)

Try it at a lower speed. I personally like to burn all my DVDs at 6x because that's the highest CLV (constant linear velocity) speed. (For Blu-Rays, it's 4x) In my experience, going at the maximum 16x speed even on media rated for that speed and even on a drive that officially supports that speed is a crapshoot. They are fine near the start of the disc (where it's burning slowly) but then develop problems towards the end when the speed has ramped up.

PS: Since you have a LiteOn drive, it supports media scanning, so Nero CD Speed's quality test can be run on it. I wonder what that would look like for a failed burn.

This^^

Also avoid any speeds that utilize ZCLV or ZCAV. Those sudden jumps in recording speed can lead to media with bad spots.

There is a useful little setting in Nero that lets you see the actual speed your drive is recording at. Its buried somewhere in "settings->advanced" if I remember right. I'd try starting at 2x to see if you can get a successful burn.
