Lite On DVD-RW

I use windows 7 64bit. now sometimes whenever I insert a DVD be it clean, slightly scratched, have copy protection (SecuROM) or don't have copy protection.

My drive just makes weird sounds and all my windows stop responding. Even media player stops working. The drive is 5 months old.

Need help.

I had the very same issue with one of my Lite-On SATA drives a while back, and I ended up just replacing it to get rid of the problem. The LG that replaced it has had no issues since.

i have a lite-on ihap422 IDE and it's been doing quite fine

i say just put in a new drive, they're cheap

Before you dump the DvD Drive, check the manufacture's site & see if a firmware update is available. If so then I would give it (ie, firmware upgrade flash) a try as you have nothing to loose. Even if an upgrade isnt available, I would then try a firmware downgrade.

Also check www.cdrlabs.com & www.videohelp.com to see if there are any suggestions or insights about the issues you are having with that particular model.
