Well,

This would be my second Lite on drive.. (12x)

I am returning this to Newegg..

Read speeds are pathetic..

I am going to contact Newegg, i refuse to play $11 bucs to restock, and then ship it back..

 for Lite on..,

Getting the 16x NEC.

:)

So to recap..

Paid to ship it here originally..

Paid to RMA it back..

Now pay $11 to restock a POS..

Then pay to SHIP back the POS

The pay shipping to receive the new drive.. ???

NO WAY.

I am calling tomorrow.

HAHAHA... over (1) hour to copy 4.7GB of Mp3

Started at 10:25 and it errored out at 11:10...

What a jokelite.JPG

If you process an RMA online, then you automatically get the restocking fee. On the other hand, if you call and request an RMA with customer support, they usually lift the restocking fee.

This is out of controll..

i have well over $25 in shipping now..

Plus the return of the POS, and the $4 in shipping for the new drive..

Hopefully the NEC better..

Newegg is known for their great customer support. I'm pretty sure they'll reimburse you if you explain to them your situation. good luck

Strange, Lite-On tends to be kick-ass with drives, wonder what went wrong. I have a Lite-On Dual Format 8x, and I love it.

Well the CD burners were amazing.. ACtaully heard ok' things on the 8x..

The 12x seem to be nothing but trouble..

Really upset as this has been nothing but a waste of time.

I was going to buy LiteOn DVD burner early this year but after hearing about the horrors of LiteOn, I blacklisted their DVD burners. I decided to go with Benq, and I'm glad I did. Over 800 burns and still going strong.

Always good to read a lot of reviews and wait to hear the true community verdict before buying.

PS: Did you update the firmware, sometimes that fixes bugs ?

Ditto.. I have that same drive, as well as a 52x liteon CD burner, and a 16x DVD-ROM. Never had a problem with any of them. In fact, the wife's computer is sporting a 48x liteon and she has no problems. I don't think I have ever had a liteon go bad on me!

Well the CD-RW drives have been absolutely flawless....

I don't know what the deal is with the DVD-RW's...

If you want to know about garbage...own a NU-082...this is the worst Optical device I have ever owned. Sad that Anandtech rates it so high.

The Lite-On dvd-rom I got for my recently-built HTPC had to be sent back; it was only recognized by windows ~1/2 the time, and only recognized having a disc in it half of that time, loud as a leafblower, and scratched a few discs up a bit, could hear it doing it. Same problems in a different pc. If the replacement they're sending me doesn't work like a dream I probably won't buy more Lite-On drives.

I am in that same boat... ( as far as DVD-RW goes )

i would still have confidence in getting a CD-RW drive from them....

Good Luck

My 812S is great...sure you don't have a settings issue?
My reads are good, with 0 C2 errors up to 16x (audio CD), and nice PIs on DVDs up to the max.
BTW, why get the 12x? Costs as much as the 832, and single-layer only.
