Lite-On DVD RW can't read anything

I just got a brand new Lite-On DVD writer and it worked for a week or so.

I pop in a Seinfeld DVD, nothing.

A Backstreet Boys music CD, nothing.

Reboot the computer with the DVD, nothing.

Device manager sees the drive. it is enabled, but the explorer sees nothing.

When I try to access the drive from command prompt, I get a "The device not ready." error.

What gives?!?!?

LOL, I got the same issue on mine. Well have for a long time. I love Lite-On drives, but this has always bugged me. Doesn't show up in My Computer but it does in Device Manager. My Computer shows A:, C: and E: drives but D: (my DVD-RW) is missing. I bet if you go to BIOS, it doesn't see it either. Now dont ask me how this works but it does. It only happens to me like 2-3 times a year at most so I guess thats why I've lived with it. Anyway, when it does, I pop off the side panel real quick, unplug and plug back in the power plug(power only!!!) to the back of the drive. Then reboot and all is good. I do it with the computer on and this is why. Everytime I tried it with the computer off and reboot, it wouldn't work. If you just bought the drive, you may wanna return it. You may not wanna accept it like I have. I just accepted it cuz it didn't start doing it until some time after I had purchased it. I'm just curious if it is the same issue. I've only ran into one other person with the same type of drive and problem. Maybe its a firmware thing.

Meh, it does show up in bios, I stick in another Lite-ON and it works fine. Looks like I have to RMA this and get another one from Newegg.
