Well, title sums it up. For some odd reason I now discover that my Lite-On DVD player (LTD-165H) does not read my Memorex DVD+R's. I am religious to Memorex DVD+R's, so I need to get a new drive I guess. Any suggestions out there? Here's what I need:

-Reads Memorex DVD+R
-BLACK
-Fastet Ripping speed possible

The +r's play just fine in my 8x TDK Burner (Plextor)

I'm thinking maybe I should go with a Plextor DVD Player since it's probable that it will work with the Memorex +R's?

Orrrr, is there a firmware update or something for the LiteOn that I have now that will make it more compatible with other media? I couldn't locate any kind of firmware updates online for it... arrrghhhh.... <annoyed>

Thanks in advance!

I have no personal experience with Plextor DVD burners, but I hear that they are the best out there.

Why change a perfectly good player because of crappy and cheap media? Memorex has gone down the drain years ago... and most of the people at dvdrhelp.com would agree...

Firmware Linkage

Gave that a try but it gives me the error:

No matched Drives Detected!
This Utility is for the JLMS XJ-HD165H drive.

Detected Drives:
2-0-0-0: JLMS DVD-ROM LTD-165H

edit:
Used FlashFIX and it reflashed without any problem. Now it reads DVD+R according to NeroINFO (and it works with my Memorex!)
Sweet! Now I don't have to buy a new drive! Thanks guys!

Maxell media is available at WalMart for $20 for 10. 2X -r, 4x +r, same price. You may find it cheaper, but WalMart is everywhere. ;)

As for self, I am a Pioneer kind of folk. 107's are now in the $150-160 range.

i got ya beat. i wait until best buy has the 50pack on sale for 49.99 (4x +r)

then i go to staples.com and buy it for $99.99 and find a $20 coupon to use.

then i call staples.com for a pricematch to best buy. they match 110% so it ends up being

$100
-$20 couopn
-$55 pricematch (they match their $100 to best buy's $50, not including coupon)

Total: $35

So far I have 5 50pack spindles sittin here, lol

Is this Memorex or Maxell media?

The Maxell has proved to be the most reliable media for a bunch of video content nuts like myself. Approved by Pioneer in the earlier models. Great ratings at DVDRHelp. Does not skip around to various mfgr (Memorex does if memory serves.)
