Sweet. I have been waiting on the Liteon DVD-+RW. I was hoping the price would be significantly lower, but I can wait. I gues I do have a Blockbuster within walking distance & a Family Video on the way to work. I couldn't wait & bought my 2x2x6 CDRW for $400 a while back. I love Liteon's CDRW's, I just hope the DVDRW's carry on the tradition. Please post a review if you latch onto one! Thanks.

are there any reviews of this drive yet? liteons are usually top notch, but i am wondering if there is a region free firmware and also a firmware that removes the 2x DVD extraction limit mandated by the MPAA. i am still happy about getting my Pioneer A05 for $100, but this should blow that sony combo drive out of the water.

Well, actually, this one is rebadged Sony. But the price range is much better than Sony's. Of course, it is worse than what Lite-On should be! :p (Less than 200 bucks plz!)

I recently got a sony external at work and have made several coasters. What I find unusual is that I will burn a fairly full data DVD-R or +R, 40mb free, with EZ Cd Creator 5+, no problems, then will try to burn the same data again, say several hours later. The second DVD will burn right up to 99% of writing the TOC, then bomb out. This second DVD will be unreadable on most machines, including the sony which wrote it. Haven't made any coasters on the first try. Other than that it is a sweet peripheral.

don't know how you can say it's sweet if it keeps giving you coasters. pretty skewed sense of perception there.

How do you figure that?Lite-On makes thier own drives and sells to other companies that rebadge them.

Ok, for anyone that has the magazine with the coupon, I was wondering which one it was. Also is the coupon printed on the back cover? Thanks!

I know this is very unusual act for Lite-On. However, all the spec is exactly same as Sony's. Lite-On has never used 8MB cache for their RW. And also, I believe there was an article contains the pictures of the inside, and everything was exactly same. Also in this Link, 400D's supplier is Sony. It seems like Lite-on could not introduce their own DVD RW (401D and 401S, I believe) by 2nd Qtr as they posted before for some reasons.

...Lite-On IT also will increase its key components purchasing from Sony.

The combination of Sony and Lite-On creates a very big and powerfull company on the optical storage market.

credit goes to the cdfreaks.com article found here.
