my lite-on burner will not burn cds. it reads normal cds just fine, the computer sees it was a cd-rw drive, but when i put in a blank cd, it doesnt read it as blank, more as just a cd with nothing on it, its as if its just a normal cd drive. the last time i burned a cd was about 3 weeks ago, since hten ive jsut been using it to just read cds.

ive tried re-installing the drivers. i disconnected my other optical drive (dvd burner). i disconnected the cd-rw drive, then reconnected it and re0installed everything but still nothing. does anyone have any ideas as to what oculd be wrong? thanks.

Drivers.....windows has the drivers? Same batch of media that worked before? What app for burning? If you try to burn, what does the burning app tell you?

Sometimes there are problems with cheap unbranded cd's.

Try a named brand first, then see if it is still buggered

im using a memorex CD. they work fine in my brother computer, but not in mine. also, if the drive still reads regular cds normally, what would a cleaner do?

clean the lens.
see if DMA is enabled in Device Manager. If you are using up too many resources, this could help.

Otherwise, Probably time to return to shop where you got the drive

Is your brothers burner identical to yours? If not try, different media before spinning your wheels.

Try the burner in a different PC too - make sure it's not something screwy with the software in your own PC first.
Nero's gotten messed up if I install a new burner - it'll see it, but not recognize it as a burner. I need to reinstall Nero to get it to see the light. So it's possible that some registry setting got messed up.

ya my next plan was to test in another pc. if it works in another PC and its just a registry problem in mine, how would i go about fixing that other than just taking the easy way out and reformatting...which i dont mind.
