I have one of these in my HTPC and it's been pretty solid, though I don't have that many Blu-Ray movies at the moment. It just fit in the case too, though I had to use a right-angle SATA connector (Silvestone ML03 with an Antec Earthwatts 380W).

I just wish these things came with less gimped software (I think I picked up the retail version because it was the same price as OEM at the time). It makes it feel like an airline - always nickel and diming you...

would it play 3d disc???
nothing in spec about that

Not sure. Think I read online somewhere that 3d playback is software and requires a 2x drive min....You'd have to do some research on it.

Newegg has a Asus Blu-ray burner for $40 after $20 MIR that can handle the 3d if worried about it. You get 1 free disc also and free shipping. Looks like it has no playback software tho.

I would buy an 8x reader minimum. I noticed a pretty big difference in playback speed and for ripping blu-ray when upgrading to 8x from a 4x drive.
