Lite-ON 851-S DVD Burner...

Hey all, found the firmware here.. Lite On

But it does nothing for the -R speed..

I love the 9 minute burns... And the 4x -R pisses me off, makes me want to get a true 8x all the way around...


I flashed my old Lite on CD-RW from 40-48x ( whcih tons of people did ) mine still works great, probably 1000 burns later.... Any possiblity of this happening on 851 DVD RW??

Shot in the dark, but maybe someone has or knows..

Returning tomorrow, just ordered the 12x Lite ON from the Egg.

I overcl0cked (okay, okay, 'firmware upgraded') my 401s, which was a 4x +R only, into an 811s, which is an 8x +R and also -R, so I got double the speed and the -R format for free.

+R is the one that is getting all the speed upgrades on the new drives anyway, -R is still lagging. I've never used a -R disc anyway, everything works fine with +R for me (started burning last December).

Lite-On owns...I think all the drives in my house are Lite-ons now.
