Lite-On 52327s doing DAE @ 3-12x using EAC

I've seen reviews where the drive is ripping up to 48x.

When I configure EAC (using settings from here) , my drive starts at 3x and finishes around 12x.

Is this normal?

Yep, with EAC you trade speed for quality.

48x sounds very high for DAE though, you sure that wasn't for data files? And just for the last bit of data on the disc?

I enabled C2 error checking and my speeds went up to 8-17x

Anyway, in this review, it says it rips at a pretty high speed (22.4x min, 48.1x max, 34.6x avg)

Wow, speeds have gone way up for DAE since the last time I looked. I may have to get a new drive for ripping on my music server box.

EAC will always be at least twice as slow as a 1-pass ripper like the CD DAE program CDRLabs used, since EAC re-read the data at least once (more if a dirty or damaged disc) to make sure the data is correct.
