Lite-On 40x12x48 Retail Box $98 (NO REBATES!)

ran a test purchase and shipping the lite-on is $13.82 by ground, $19.95 by 3-day select, $33.89 by 2-day air, and $57.45 by next day air.

so, lite-on from technologybazaar is $98 + $14 = $112 at the least by ground (technology bazaar is in walnut, ca).

newegg has it at $106 + $6 = $112 (+ tax, maybe) at most, by fedex saver (2-3 day delivery).

if you're in california, you'll probably pay tax anyways, so you could buy from either place and get the same price with tax and shipping. outside of california, you might save a couple of bucks going with technologybazaar, assuming you save enough tax over newegg to balance out the extra $6 for 3-day shipping, unless you don't mind waiting for a ground shipment (west coast to east coast is around 10 business days).

I read somewhere that people were having probs with these drives dropping off their systems and not being able to be redetected or something. Anyone else hear somethign similar?

I'll probably get mine from newegg, since the price works out to be the same from either store. need a new cdrw for my new system. it's either the 32x or 40x, but will probably get the 40x since it has a higher read speed.

ummm...this will actually top my 40.12.40 Plex...Too bad the LiteOn isn't pretty enough to put into a LianLi.

Awesome deal. I don't know how LiteOn keeps throwing out top of the line drives and selling them for under $100 rightaway.

You can make any drive suitable for a Lian Li. I bought some silver spray paint and painted the faceplates of the DVD and CDRW drives (both Lite-On) to match the color of the silver Lian Li case I have. It looks tight. Should try it. You can easily pop off the face plate and the front of the slide out tray and cover the LED with a piece of tape before spraying. Gives a really nice touch when you do it.

this deal is hot, it was getting time to upgrade this old 10x anyways, anyone have a link to some burn times on this thing?

<<

<< how long does it take to burn a cd w/40x burners? >>

barely any difference from a 24X......
>>

less than a minute difference when comparing 24x vs 40x

Thats a hot price, Im just worried about the problems it's having burning audio cds cd to cd.

<< Pretty soon you'll have to get the oven mits out to remove a CD. >>

LOL, pretty soon our CD/DVD-Roms won't be fast enough to do a CD to CD copy! 😱

Well... here's my word of advice: "Brand/Manufacturer matters!"

I happen to have a Yamaha 16x and Lite-On 16x

CD to CD
Yamaha 16x- approximately 8 minutes
Lite-On 16x- approximately 15 minutes

I found this kind of queer as well...

Here's my theory, the performance of the drive depends on the computer... and the better the brand the more chances of it working having a better performance on your computer, my computer is a bit cracnky so maybe that's why...
