LITE ON 40x12x48 problem

I have recently assembled a computer

this is the spec: amd xp 1700
asus a7v333
antec tower case with 400 W
liteon 40x12x48
toshiba 16x dvd
maxtor 60 gb hdd

installed nero that came with the LITEON
ver 5.5.9.2

and the problem is when i try to make a cd copy
it will only give me upto 12x
which i think it might be cdrw max speed

could anyone help me how to fix this to regular max cd-r speed??

thank you

I'm not real sure what you're saying. Are you saying that your media is only rated at 12x? Are you trying to write to cd media or cdrw media?

nvm
i think i found it on their site

one last question
i bought them from newegg and it was juss the drive and nero cd
where do i get the nero cd key?
or registartion key.. whatever they call it

ok i juss update it
but still the same problem...

can this be anything related to hardware set up?
or is it purely the software.. what it is not registered and stuff..

thanx

Are you sure you are using 40x rated media? If you are using slow media Smart-burn will limit the speed of the burn to what the discs are rated for.

12X is probably the max speed at which it can go straight from one cd drive to another...
(this is about average for most cd drives to be able to send the data...)
so uncheck fast on the fly and then it will copy to the harddrive first and should allow you to burn it at 40X...

I had a similar problem with the same drive. My problem was that the drive would never get out of PIO mode so it would say that it would be burning 40x but really take almost 8 minutes to burn a cd. The drive eventually stopped working completely and I RMA'd it last week back to newegg.com

I'm beginning to wonder what is up with those Lite-On drives. My 40x Lite-On burner is about 3 months old. It has completely stopped burning all but Imation CD's. It won't work on my PNY's or my Fujifilms. I have tried CloneCd, Nero, and Blindwrite. It kicks all the cd's out (except Imation) and makes them unusable.

I thought I was getting a bad batch of PNY's and Fujifilms cause occasionally before I could get one or the other to burn. I put these cd's in my laptop burner and they work just fine.

The Lite On's might burn everything but they sure make them cheap.

MrMaster have you tried flashing the Lite-on to the newest firmware? it has an updated list of supported CD-r media

Like other have said before, I'd also check to make sure that the CD's you're using to burn are rated for 40x burning. Nero will limit the speed you can burn a cd at if it doesn't think the media can handle it...

or disable smart burn or smart-X (whatever its called 😉 ) to force the cd to burn at a higer speed...

Recorders-> Options -> Smart- X

I've got a LITE-ON myself, although I haven't had similar problems...

Here's a list of possible solutions:

1. Check your media, if it isn't 40X writeable media, it won't burn at that high of a speed!

2. Check your firmware revision #, get the latest firmware.

3. Try to force NERO to burn at 40X (someone posted how to do that above).

If that doesn't work, it's probably the mediocrity of LITE-ON burners. I once tried to burn using generic media (doh!) and it ended up with write errors 2 out of 3 times. Ever since then, I just buy Verbatim ValuLife CD-Rs, they are cheap and I haven't gotten any errors yet. (27 CD-Rs burned, so far)

It's just your media... I have the exact same drive...

It gives you different max write speeds on different media... On some HP CDRs I can only write at 24x, while with some memorex CDRs I can write at full 40x....

Updating firmware or Nero wont fix the problem... you just have to buy media that supports writing at 40x...

Only a few days late in replying. I'll try the firmware update tonight. My PNY and Fujifilm media is all 16x and it won't even burn at 12x. However, I will try the firmware update.
