Lite-on 40X was burning CDs for sometime until I downloaded ASAPI drivers. Since then it doesn't work. I tried couple of CD writer softwares like Nero, Acoustica and NTI CD-Maker 2000 pro.
All of them couldn't recognize the CD writer.

I think it has something to do with the ASAPI drivers. But i don't know how to solve it.

Also, I am using Abit KR7A-Raid and Soundblaster Live. I don't know if it is caused by either of these.

Any help ?

thanks

What Operating System are you using? What type of burning software came with the drive? See if there are any updates to your burning software. Sometimes an older version won't work with a newer drive.

Good Luck

If your burner was burning cds, why did you dnload ASAPI drivers? Are you sure that you actually dnloaded the correct drivers?
Maybe they overwrote the correct drivers and now it just recognizes it as a cd reader, and not a writer.

Try uninstalling the cdrw and then re-installing it from scratch.

I am having the exact same problem with my 40X writer. I do not know the manufacterer of the writer, but it was sold by Digital Research (IO Magic). My drive is only 2 months old and I have burned about 20 CDs or so. I do not use this drive for reading or anything else but CD burning. However, just recently, I cannot burn any CDs at all. All have some kind of error... either saying that the CDR is not empty or it just stops burning with an unknown error halfway through.

I am using Nero 5.5 with Fujifilm 24X CD R discs. I burn at 16X but with still same problems. I use Windows XP Pro with SP1 and I have made no modifications whatsoever. The drive just simply stopped burning. I can read all discs just perfectly fine though.

I m beginning to think the drive is simply broken. Maybe this is the case for you too, greenant. Have you tried switching CDR brands? Maybe try burning at a very low rate, such as 1x, 2x, or 4x?
