I got in on the Office Max deal a while back and have had my drive installed for some time now. I believe i put it on the same ide cable as my dvd and set it to slave. Now for the questions
1) What is the smart burn technology? Isnt it suppose to automatically choose the burn speed according to the type of cdr used?
If thats the case, why when using every program it burn at the speed i choose it to burn at? I thought it chooses automatically but if i choose 12x,it burns at 12x. Am i doing something wrong or is there a program to use that you dont have to choose a speed and lets the burner choose the speed?

SMART-Burn stands for Smart Monitoring & Adapting Recording Technology for Burning.

basically, the drive runs through several checks before and during the burning process to ensure the best possible burning quality at the fastest possible speed. Among those checks are the media condition checks (that checks the brand and type of CD-R/W media that is being used) and the vari-speed burning checks that enable the drive to speed-up or slow-down the burning process according to the CD-R/W media quality.

so, assuming there are no problems with the media you are using, it would burn at the speed you select every time.

Also, for burning a musci cd, what is the best program to use?
I have been using Nero and just didnt know if there was a better program to use.

PS. I never burn music that high. Doesnt it usually mess up the audio tracks with clicks and pops? I am using a Surround hi-fi system so, any little pops are noticable. I am using TY cdrs rated 12x that i got from the Sears deal
