I looked everywhere for warranty info and can't find any. One thing I know is that this LCD is probably not made in Japan or the US. While this price is fantastic. I think sub $500 17" LCD will be very common soon.

Should probably check for some reviews, first. Specs aren't everything, and Lite-On isn't exactly a reputable monitor manufacturer.

it doesnt exactly take any type of reputation at all to make an LCD panel.

you just buy a panel off of the mabye 4 or 5 panel manufacturers in the world, and put an inverter and some other stuff in the box . its not like viewsonic, iiyama, eizo, nec , cornea, hercules, etc actually make their own panels now is it. unlike with crts, there are no filters, and magnetic fields to worry about, all the stuff is already built by the panel maker.

this panel is probably just as good visually as any big name.

panel manufacturers basically are, samsung, hyundai, sharp, LG-phillips, chunghwa , and a few other companies.

liteon probably got it from chunghwa, they are not a "retail" manufacturer normally, but its pretty likely an OEM like them makes all of viewsonic or nec or someother big name place's LCDs anyways.

Lite-On makes Gateway's monitors.

Question: Do we want higher contrast ratios or lower? 400:1 is better than 300:1 right?

Would be nice if someone could verify the response time. $467 shipped would be fantastic if it is suitable for gaming.

gateway's monitors are made by LG-phillips . well the panels are unless they changed suppliers lately.

I think he means LCD response time, not Dell's. ;)

50ms = ~ 20 screen refreshes/sec.
30ms = ~33 screen refreshes/sec.

Pennstate - right, however, one can probably fit 3-6 17" LCD's in the space that those dual 19" or single 21" monitor takes up. I know that if I were not purchasing a new house right now, I'd be looking to upgrade from my 19" KDS flat screen to a 17" or 18" LCD just to get back some real estate on my desktop....

Heck, for the price I paid for this KDS two years ago, I could get a nice 17" LCD now. With that thought, a $1000 worth of Worldcom stock would have only been like 10 shares or so back then also.....
