Lite-On 12x in XP...problems.

I installed XP (dual boot with already running Me), and install Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.02 platinum and cdrwin 4.0. CDRWin doesn't recognize my burner, and easy cd says it has problems initializing the engine. At first, it said it couldn't load the ASPI engine, then I tried installing ASPI drivers (first from the ones on the Roxio CD, then from the net, then goldenhawk drivers) with no luck. Now, it just says initializing failed. I tried using the XP update for roxio, and now it just crashes. Any ideas how to fix this?

I had the same problem a while back. I'm pretty sure I fixed it by running aspichk.exe (I think that's what the file name is, at least) the I got off of the net. I also ran ASPI32.exe and there was one other one that helped too, but I'm not at home now. Hope this helps a little.

Yeah, i've been trying to work with aspi for a while. At least I got CDRWin working now, Easy CD still crashes when I try to load something like CD Copier. aspichk.exe says I have all four components at version 4.60 (1021) installed, although oddly now it crashes after it displays this information.

i had nothing but problems with the roxio ez-cd creator. ended going to nero 5.5.5.1 and everything has worked perfectly. hate to say it but that ez-cd creator software is bad news. can you switch? or just download the demo from the web? (but you have to uninstall ez-cd creator, they wont mix)
good luck

Yeah, personally I prefer CDRWin for almost everything, sometimes I used nero but cdrwin does everything I need. This is for my family's computer though, back for the winter so i'm on tech support call. My dad only uses easy cd, heh. If I can't get it fixed i'll switch to nero and try to teach him.

Did you follow the instructions on this page for Easy CD Creator Platinum?
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/xpup.jhtml

It works fine for my friend, who has a Lite-On 24x10x40. BTW, you don't need to install that ASPI layer, unless you have software that needs it (like AudioCatalyst or something). And one more thing: if you want Nero to start up quicker, and you don't use Windows' built in CD writing feature, uncheck "Enable CD Recording on this drive" under the properties/recording tab of your CD writer.
