listing military on your resume?

i'm in the national guard, but haven't gone to basic training yet (september). Should i list it on my resume? The way my resume is set up is that there are 3 different bullet points for every job, and i'm not sure if i should list the ANG as a job or accomplishment.

I've already started...i do weekend drills once a month, and i'm afraid that if i list it as i WILL be leaving for four months, they might get turned off.

Pro:
- service for your country
- better than surprising your employer after they hire you

Cons:
- employers justifiably scared you'll be shipped off to Iraq for a year. Unlike in Bush's day the Guard isn't a place to hide from real service.
- if you haven't even done basic training yet, how much experience do you have ?

i've done a TON of PT (physical training), some schooling, m16 assembly and disassemly, basic hand to hand combat, etc.

You have no training that is currently applicable to the real world employers.

Leave it off until you have some type of tech school under your belt.

What if you wash out of basic?

I wouldn't list that you are in, but that you are signed up and WILL be in shortly.

The advice we give our guys is to list that you have signed up and are currently drilling, but have not gone to Basic/AIT yet. It should be a bonus to your possible employer if your MOS relates to what civilian job you are trying to get. If you don't list it and they hire you be prepared for some highly annoyed people when you tell them you have to leave for Basic, then AIT, then 2 weeks every year, etc. Honesty is the best policy.
