I just got this email from Netzero. I don't know if this has been discussed before, so forgive me if it has. Anyway here is the email...Not only do they want to force us to have banner (I have learned to live with that) and the annoyinf pop-up ads (I hate those the most), now they want to charge us a fee is you surf over 40 hours a month.

Dear xxxxxxx:

There are some changes in the NetZero service that will
probably NOT AFFECT YOU, but that you should know about.

NETZERO REMAINS FREE FOR 40 HOURS PER CALENDAR MONTH. For
the small percentage of users who use NetZero for more
than 40 hours per month, we will charge a fee for connect
time beyond the initial 40 hours, while the first 40 hours
remain free. This change will take effect the beginning of
January. BASED ON OUR RECORDS OF YOUR NETZERO USAGE, THIS
CHANGE WILL MOST LIKELY NOT AFFECT YOU:

Your NetZero Usage Record for November
-----------------------------------------------------
Your NetZero Member ID xxxxxxxxx
Date of Membership xx-xxx-xx
Your Usage in November 2000 xx hour(s)

Again, we want to emphasize that, based on your NetZero
usage history, this policy will probably not affect you.
You will have completely free Internet access for 40 hours
each and every month. It's that simple. In fact, it will
most likely affect only a small percentage of our members,
and it will only affect those users when they exceed 40
hours - they still have the choice to not pay by using less
than 40 hours.

Please note that we will charge by household (based on one
computer and one phone line) so if your household uses more
than 40 hours, you will be asked to pay when you exceed those
40 hours. To read more details, please refer to our Terms of
Service, our FAQs or our Website.

How many free ISPs are still in business? How can they make money when stupid people try to get rid of their banners, their only way to generate "profit"? (Profit = $.07 per click or so) It's only inevitable that this should have happened

how will they charge you if you gave them a bogus name/address? Or do you have to give them more info now?

Maybe they wouldn't have had to be reduced to this if they did not waste perfectly good money on lame commercials.
Lame I say.
