You do know that stations vary by town right? For instance, there is no AM 640 where I live.

Statically speaking more people are bit by other breeds of dogs than pitbulls. But when someone gets bit/attacked by a pitbull the injuries are usually more severe though.
I don't think they're bad dogs. Just bad owners.

The problem is that a lot of Pitbull owners want aggressive dogs and so many breeders put effort into breeding aggressive dogs that will be easier to sell.
Pit's that are bred to be docile for several generations by reputable breeders & then trained well by responsible owners are no more dangerous then other large & potentially aggressive dogs towards people, the problem is that the aggressive Pit's are out there now & owned by irresponsible a-holes in most cases.
The breed of dog isn't directly responsible for its behavior no matter how popular that idea becomes (although some dogs DO have more aggressive tendencys) ... for example if I hadn't trained my German Shepard well he would be very dangerous & quite capable of doing serious damage to even a large adult human.

I can pull examples of almost any dog breed attacking children. It happens. It could be bad owners, or it could be a bad dog. Whenver people advocate banning one breed, they get on really shaky ground. One breed is usually where it starts, and then every time there's a dog that severely injures or kills someone, people want to ban the entire breed. This exact thing happened in Calgary. Pit bulls were banned for several killings. Then a Mastiff (which is a very gentle dog by nature) killed a teenage girl. The parents lobbied for a banning of the Mastiff breed, and they succeeded. Italy is another prime example. They started with a few "dangerous" breeds. Now they have restrictions on 92 dog breeds, recently adding the infamously dangerous Welsh Corgi: http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/9-25-2003-45847.asp
